This is a Faultless Series 1400 medium-heavy duty swivel caster with an 8" x 2" black phenolic wheel and a foot-operated face-contact brake. Faultless (a Colson Group brand) built the 1400 series as its everyday industrial workhorse for platform trucks, dollies, warehouse carts and commercial equipment — and this is the hard-to-find single with the brake, for when one caster in a set fails and the other three are still good.

The phenolic (Plaskite®) wheel is phenolic resin reinforced with macerated fabric, compression-molded for high strength and impact resistance. It carries metal-wheel loads without developing a flat spot under standing loads, is non-marking, non-conductive and spark-proof, resists oil, gasoline and dilute acids, and is rated from -40°F to +300°F — the brown fabric band visible at the center of the tread in the photos is that reinforcement.

Press the ON pedal to set the face-contact brake against the wheel; press OFF to roll. The zinc-plated rig has a double ball bearing swivel raceway with grease fittings at the swivel and axle for serviceable, long life.

Why phenolic?

Highest load capacity per dollar of any standard wheel, no flat-spotting when parked loaded, and it rolls easily on smooth concrete and hard floors. Best in dry indoor industrial service — phenolic is not recommended for routine standing water / washdown use.

How much weight does it hold?

1,050 lb for this single caster, per Faultless's rating for the 8x2 phenolic configuration. Size your set by total loaded equipment weight divided by the number of casters, with a safety margin.

What does the brake lock?

The foot pedal drives a face-contact brake against the wheel to stop it rolling. Pedals are stamped ON and OFF. It does not lock the swivel.

What floors is phenolic best on?

Smooth concrete and other hard, dry floors. It is non-marking, but like all hard wheels it can chip if repeatedly run over steel plate edges, debris or rough broken concrete, and it is not for wet / washdown service.

Does it flat-spot if parked loaded?

No — phenolic is specifically chosen for heavy standing loads that move infrequently; it does not develop a permanent flat spot like rubber can.
